Great Gale (first) strikes Boston.
October 10, 1804
(to 10/11) Also known as the Great Gale of 1804, the so-called “snow hurricane” brings with it rain, snow, thunder, and lightning, and winds of over 100-miles-per-hour. It blows down the steeple of the Old North Church, lifts the roof off of King’s Chapel, and seriously damages the town’s wharves. Only two such storms have struck New England since.
